XREAL and Google have launched XREAL AURA, a new pair of extended reality (XR) glasses powered by Android XR. Announced on October 28, the device brings Google’s spatial computing platform into a lightweight, transparent-glasses form factor designed for work, entertainment and everyday use.
Unlike conventional VR headsets, AURA uses optical see-through lenses, allowing users to view digital content while remaining aware of their physical surroundings. Its 70-degree field of view is designed to accommodate multiple spatial and 2D applications, while the glasses themselves weigh less than 95 grams.
The system relies on a separate computing unit, called the Compute Puck, connected to the glasses by cable. The puck houses the battery and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Reality Elite platform, while the glasses provide the visual interface. This split-compute architecture aims to reduce the weight worn on the face without sacrificing processing performance.
Android XR gives AURA access to Google Play applications, including more than 150 apps designed for XR, alongside Gemini AI assistance. Users can arrange multiple app windows around them, connect a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, or mirror a laptop display through a USB-C connection that supports video output.
Google also highlights entertainment features, including access to YouTube and Google TV, immersive video, and spatial conversion for selected content. The device will support experiences developed specifically for XR, including Fallout: Factions and Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars.
AURA’s launch marks another step in Google’s strategy to expand Android XR through hardware partnerships rather than a single device category. For XREAL, it represents a move beyond wearable displays toward a more complete spatial computing platform.
The glasses are available to order in the United States, Canada and South Korea, with orders opening in Japan on November 2. Launch pricing starts at US$1,099 for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage model through the end of 2026. The 16GB/512GB version is priced at US$1,299 during the same promotional period. Shipments are expected to begin in mid-November.
Whether AURA can make spatial computing practical for everyday use will depend not only on its hardware, but also on the usefulness of its applications and the comfort of carrying a connected computing unit.
